From all I’ve read, and judging from what her family has stated…Pier’s death was ruled more likely an accidental overdose by injection administered from her physician. She actually was given a sedative to help her relax and fall asleep. She suffered from insomnia for years. The doctor left her sleeping and didn’t stay to watch her, which is what he should have done. She actually had an allergic reaction to the drug which caused her to go into anaphylactic shock which is what killed her. People often say she killed herself, I believe to glamorize some sort of “Romeo and Juliet” idea they have about her love affair with James Dean. It’s understandable to want to believe that since after his death, none of her love affairs lasted. That coupled with difficulty with her acting career, threw her into a deep depression which she often spoke of to friends, family, and doctors. I think she said of James Dean as being the only man she ever loved, mainly because he never hurt her or took advantage of her like she felt all the other men had.
